FAIRFIELD, Ala., –
The University of North Alabama
women’s basketball team got back on the winning track Tuesday
evening with a 65-57 road win over Miles College. The eight-point
win broke a three-game losing streak and improved the Lions’ overall
record to 4-5 on the season.
Chelsey Malone led all scorers with 19 points on the night. The
junior from Corinth, Miss., got 15 points in the first half,
including 12 of the Lions’ first 14 points. Jessica Strucher hit a
buzzer-beating jumper in the first half as UNA built a 36-28 lead in
the opening 20 minutes of play.
Miles pulled to within a point at 54-53 with 2:52 remaining, but
would never tie or take the lead.
Jameica York also reached double figures in scoring for UNA with 17
points and four assists on the night. As a team, the Lions shot 36.4
percent from the floor and held a 40-32 edge in rebounding.
UNA will return to Flowers Hall for its next game Friday evening.
The Lions will take on Georgia Southwestern at 7 p.m.
