ARKADELPHIA, Ark., – The University of North Alabama
women’s basketball team rallied from a four-point half-time deficit
to post a 63-52 road win over Ouachita Baptist Monday evening at the
Bill Vining Arena on the OBU campus.
Amber
Rutherford led a balanced UNA scoring attack with 16 points, while
Chelsey Malone and Shay Ashford added 14 points each on the night.
UNA trailed
32-28 at the half before outscoring the Lady Tigers 35-20 over the
final 20 minutes of play. Ashford, who got all over her points in
the second half, sparked a 12-5 run with a pair of three-pointers
and a lay-up in the first three minutes.
The Lions went
ahead for good at the 5:52 mark with a pair of free throws by
Rutherford. OBU would not hit a shot from the floor the rest of the
way.
The win
improves UNA’s record to 4-6 on the year while the Tigers fall to
3-7.
The Lions will
be off until Dec. 29-30 when they host the Marriott Shoals Holiday
Classic. UNA will join UAH and play Saint Leo and Kentucky Wesleyan
on consecutive days at Flowers Hall.
