FLORENCE -- The University of North Alabama women's
basketball team hit 13 three-point baskets and held its opponent to
28 percent shooting from the floor as the Lions downed Saint Leo
76-44 in the Marriott Shoals Holiday Classic at Flowers Hall.
Kentucky Wesleyan
defeated Alabama-Huntsville 71-60 in the other game Saturday. UNA
will meet Kentucky Wesleyan at 4 p.m. Sunday. UAH will face Saint
Leo at 2 p.m.
UNA made eight
three-point baskets in the first half, with five coming from guard
Chelsey Malone. That offensive effort, combined with a Lion defense
that held Saint Leo to just nine-of-34 shooting from the floor, led
UNA to a 38-22 lead at intermission.
The Lions were
never challenged in the second half and made five more
three-pointers.
All 14 players on
UNA's roster entered the game and 10 of them scored. Malone led UNA
with 18 points and Amber Rutherford added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
UNA held a solid 48-35 rebounding edge.
Saint Leo was led
by Amanda Holloway with nine points.
UNA is now 5-6
overall, while Saint Leo falls to 7-3.
