FLORENCE -- Holding an 11-point lead at the half, the
University of North Alabama women's basketball team managed just
two-for-25 shooting over the final 20 minutes and came out on the
short end of a 50-39 score to Kentucky Wesleyan in the final game of
the Marriott Shoals Holiday Classic.
UNA, now 5-7, led 28-17 at the half
after holding the Panthers to six-of-23 shooting in the first half.
But the tables turned in the second half as UNA managed just 11
points, with seven of those coming from the free throw line.
Kentucky Wesleyan improved to 7-2 with
the win.
Laura McClintic led the Panthers with
13 points and LaTasha Henry added 12. McClintic was named to the
all-tournament team and Henry was the Most Valuable Player after
scoring 20 points in the Panthers first game of the tournament.
Amber Rutherford and Shay Ashford led
UNA with eight points each. UNA outrebounded Kentucky Wesleyan 42-34
behind nine rebounds from Danae Lawrence.
For the game, UNA was 12-of-48 from the
floor and just four-of-13 on three pointers. Kentucky Wesleyan was
20-of-56 from the field and made six three-pointers.
