FLORENCE – A six-minute scoring drought in the second
half proved costly for the University of North Alabama women’s
basketball team Saturday as Valdosta State rallied for a 52-44
victory at Flowers Hall.
The Lions led
17-13 at the half and had a 23-17 lead with 17:01 remaining before
the 14th-ranked Lady Blazers used a 16-0 run to take control of the
game. UNA couldn’t score until the 11:18 mark when Amber Rutherford
connected on a baseline jumper. By then, VSU had already stretched
the lead to double digits and never trailed again.
The loss drops
the Lions to 11-13 overall with a 4-5 showing in the Gulf South
Conference. Valdosta State improves to 20-4, 6-3.
Rutherford led
UNA with 11 points, while Tandra Inmon added 10 on the game.
Valdosta was
led by Julie Kongeskov’s 13-point effort.
