FLORENCE – Amber Rutherford scored 22 points and pulled
down 12 rebounds to lead the University of North Alabama women’s
basketball team to a 90-57 win over Blue Mountain Tuesday evening at
Flowers Hall. The 33-point victory in the Lions’ home opener gives
the team a 1-2 record on the year.
UNA took
control early in the contest, racing out to a 51-25 lead at the
half.
Rutherford had
16 points at the break as the Lions shot 49 percent from the floor
and forced 13 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes of play. UNA also
out-rebounded the Toppers 54-36.
Danae Lawrence
added a career-high 12 points to round out the Lions’ top scorers,
while Tandra Inmon turned in a solid effort with seven points, seven
assists and seven rebounds.
UNA will travel
to Lane College on Nov. 29 for its next action. Tip-off is set for
5:30 p.m. in Jackson, Tenn.
