MEMPHIS, Tenn., – Amber Rutherford’s game-high 18 points
and 10 rebounds was not enough as the University of North Alabama
women’s basketball team dropped a 57-54 road decision to Christian
Brothers Saturday afternoon.
Neither team
held a double-digit lead in the contest. CBU held a 26-20 lead at
the break and never relinquished the advantage over the final 20
minutes of play. UNA (3-5) outscored the Lady Bucs 34-31 in the
second half, but could never get over the hump. The win improves
CBU’s record to 7-1 on the season.
Although
Rutherford was the only UNA player to reach double figures in
scoring, Danae Lawrence and Shay Ashford had a big game a the boards
with 10 and 11 rebounds respectively. Kat Butler and Ponecia
Anderson led the Lady Bucs with 14 points each.
The Lions will
travel to Searcy, Ark., on Dec. 15 for a match-up against Harding.
Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Rhodes Field House on the HU
campus.
