– Dana Jackson hit six three-point
baskets and finished with a
game-high 23 points to lead the
University of North Alabama women’s
basketball team to a 69-62 road win
over Montevallo Thursday evening in
Gulf South Conference action. The
freshman from Winchester, Tenn.,
went 6-of-7 from three-point range
as the Lions won for the third
straight game to improve to 13-11
overall and 6-3 in the GSC.
With the win, the Lions remain tied
with Valdosta State for second place
in the East Division. The Falcons
drop to fourth place in the East at
7-17 overall, 3-5 in the conference.
On Thursday, Montevallo led by as
many as eight early in the game
before UNA was able to recover and
take a 38-33 lead at the half. The
Falcons took a brief lead again
early in the second half until a
three-pointer by Jackson at the
14:43 mark gave UNA the lead for
good.
For the game, the Lions hit 50
percent from the floor and a blazing
58 percent from three-point range.
Amber Rutherford added 15 points for
UNA. Montevallo was led by Carrie
Parrott’s 19-point showing.
The Lions will hit the road again on
Saturday for another GSC contest
against West Alabama. Tip-off is set
for 2 p.m. on the UWA campus.
