FLORENCE
– Four players reached double digits in scoring as the
University of North Alabama women’s basketball team remained
unbeaten in Gulf South Conference play with an 80-67 win over
Montevallo Saturday afternoon at Flowers Hall. Dana Jackson and
Jameica York scored 18 points each as the Lions improved to 9-8
overall with a 2-0 mark in conference play.
The Lions trailed 34-33 at the half
before turning up the defensive pressure over the final 20
minutes. Montevallo (4-13 overall, 0-2 GSC) hit just 1-of-9
three-point shots in the second half and shot just 39 percent
from the floor.
Lacy Lewis also helped provide a
second-half spark for UNA, scoring 12 of her 15 points in the
second period. Amber Rutherford also added 12 points on the day
as the Lions won their second straight game to open GSC play.
The Falcons were led by Alicia
Lewis, who scored a game-high 21 points.
UNA will now prepare for its first
road GSC games of the season next weekend. The Lions will play
at West Florida on Thursday before taking on Valdosta State the
following Saturday.
