LAKE Buena Vista, Fla.,
- The University of North Alabama
women's basketball team let an
11-point second half lead slip away
as Southern New Hampshire rallied
for a 63-60 season-opening victory
over the Lions Friday in the opening
round of the Walt Disney Tip-Off
Classic.
UNA (0-1) led by nine at the break,
and held a 40-29 advantage early in
the second half before the Penmen
used a 12-2 run to get back in the
game. SNH tied the game at 44-44
with just over 12 minutes to play,
then later used an 11-0 run to go
ahead 55-47 with 8:25 remaining.
North Alabama answered with nine
straight points to go on top 56-55,
but the Penmen (1-0) took the lead
for good on the ensuing possession
with a three-point basket by Libby
Cullerot.
Rebounding hurt the Lions as SNH
held a commanding 51-35 advantage in
the category. UNA also struggled
from three-point range, hitting just
9-of-35 shots from beyond the arc.
A pair of sophomores led UNA in
scoring. Dana Jackson hit four of
the team's nine three-pointers and
finished with a team-high 15 points.
Lacy Lewis also reached double
digits in scoring with 14 points
after hitting 6-of-10 shots from the
floor.
