– Lacy Lewis hit a
three-pointer and a
jumper to give North
Alabama an early 5-0
lead before
Arkansas-Monticello took
complete control of the
game with a 25-3 run en
route to a 63-44 home
victory over the
visiting Lions Saturday
afternoon in women’s
basketball action. The
Cotton Blossoms forced
11 UNA turnovers in the
opening half and turned
them into 17 points. The
Lions also failed to
connect on another
three-point basket in
the game, falling to 5-8
on the season. With the
win, UAM evened its
overall record at 6-6.
The Cotton Blossoms led
by as many as 23 points
in the opening stanza
before taking a 39-19
lead at the half. UNA
connected on just 20.8
percent of its shots.
In the second half, the
Lions went 7-of-24 from
the floor, but did not
connect from three-point
range. UNA would get as
close as 12 in the final
20 minutes, but could
never get the deficit to
single digits.
Sanqueeta Meardith led
North Alabama with 12
points for the game
while Lewis finished the
outing with seven
points.
The Lions will stay on
the road for another
showdown against a Gulf
South Conference West
Division team on Monday.
UNA will play Southern
Arkansas with tip-off
set for 5:30 p.m.
