State shot 43 percent
from the field and held
a commanding 46-33
advantage in rebounding
during a 68-48 home
victory over the
University of North
Alabama women’s
basketball team Monday
evening at Sillers
Coliseum on the DSU
campus. The Lady
Statesmen had three
players reach double
digits in scoring to
improve to 5-0 on the
season. With the loss,
UNA drops to 3-6 on the
year.
Delta State hit six
three-point baskets in
the first half to help
build a 36-23 lead at
the break. After
out-scoring the Lions
32-25 over the final 20
minutes, the Lady
Statesmen extended their
home winning streak to
39 consecutive games.
UNA was able to get the
deficit to single digits
early in the second half
on a jumper by Brianna
Abrams with 15:31
remaining. The shot made
the score40-31, but the
Lions would get no
closer. Delta State
responded with nine
straight points to
stretch the lead to
49-31 and remained in
control the rest of the
way.
Lacy Lewis led the Lions
with 12 points on the
day. The sophomore from
Fyffe, Ala., also pulled
down a team-high six
rebounds. Delta State’s
Shameka Russell led all
scorers with a
career-high 18 points.
UNA will return home to
host Georgia
Southwestern on
Saturday. Tip-off is set
for 1 p.m. at Flowers
Hall.
