– Lacy Lewis equaled
her season-high of 19
points to lead the
University of North
Alabama women’s
basketball team to a
70-64 road victory over
Southern Arkansas Monday
evening on the SAU
campus. The win evened
the Lions’ record on the
Arkansas road trip at
1-1 and gave the team a
6-9 overall record on
the season heading into
Gulf South Conference
play later in the week.
Against the Lady
Muleriders, Lewis was
7-of-11 from the floor,
including four
three-points baskets for
the game. The sophomore
from Fyffe, Ala., has
also posted 19-point
showings in two earlier
games this year and
pushed her average to
10.1 points per game
with the performance on
Monday.
North Alabama led 39-30
at the half and was able
to hold off SAU over the
final 20 minutes of
play. The Lions led by
as many as 16 in the
second half and only
allowed Southern
Arkansas to cut the lead
to single digits in the
final two minutes of
play.
Three other players
reached double digits in
scoring, including Dana
Jackson’s 13 points.
Jameica York and Brianna
Abrams added 10 points
each.
SAU (5-7) was led by
Kmaria Hobbs’ game-high
24 points on the night.
UNA will now turn its
attention to its GSC
opener by hosting
Valdosta State Thursday
afternoon. The game,
which was originally
scheduled to be an
evening contest, has
been moved to 1 p.m. at
Flowers Hall.
