– Ashton Mertens came of
the bench to score 19
points and lead Southern
Indiana to a 91-62 home
win over the University
of North Alabama women’s
basketball team
Wednesday evening. With
the loss, UNA falls to
4-7 on the season while
the Screaming Eagles
improve to 10-2,
including a perfect 6-0
showing at the Physical
Activities Center on the
USI campus.
North Alabama trailed
47-28 at the half, but
cut into the deficit
before the home team
pulled away down the
stretch. Consecutive
free throws by Jameica
York made the score
72-60 with 6:01
remaining. USI, however,
responded with a 17-0
run to take a 29-point
lead and seal the win.
Dana Jackson hit four
three-point baskets and
finished with a
game-high 20 points for
the Lions. York and Lacy
Lewis added 10 points
each to round out the
top scorers for UNA.
The Lions will have a
10-day break before
returning to action at
home on Dec. 19. The
Lions will face Arkansas
Tech at Flowers Hall
with tip-off set for 1
p.m.
