– Niala Harris scored 30 points
to lead the University of North
Alabama women’s basketball team
to a 71-56 victory over Spring
Hill College Tuesday evening in
Mobile. UNA trailed 32-30 at the
half before rallying with a
41-24 edge over the final 20
minutes.
Making his first coaching visit
against his former team, head
coach Terry Fowler picked up the
victory as the Lions improved to
3-4 on the season. With the
loss, Spring Hill falls to 0-4
on the year. Fowler was the head
coach for the Badgers from
2003-06 before taking over at
North Alabama.
On Tuesday, UNA used a solid
defensive effort in the second
half to key the comeback. After
Spring Hill hit 48.3 percent of
its shots from the floor in the
first half, UNA limited the home
to just 8-of-29 shooting in the
second stanza of play.
The Lions were also able to take
more advantage of free throws
after the break. After getting
to the foul line only once in
the first half, North Alabama
was 9-of-10 from the charity
stripe over the final 20 minutes
of play.
Harris, who scored 17 points in
the second half, was 12-of-16
from the floor and completed a
double-double performance with
12 rebounds on the night.
Sanqueeta Meardith also reached
double digits in scoring with 13
points for UNA.
The Lions will travel to
Christian Brothers on Saturday
for its next action on the
court. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
on the CBU campus.
