FLORENCE
– The University of
North Alabama
women’s basketball
team used a balanced
scoring attack
Saturday afternoon
to knock off West
Georgia and open
Gulf South
Conference play with
a win. Niala Harris
scored 17 points and
nine other UNA
players contributed
on the scoreboard in
the 64-48 victory.
With the win, UNA
improves to 7-9 on
the season with a
1-0 mark in GSC
play. The Wolves
fall to 6-10 on the
year and 0-1 in the
conference.
North Alabama broke
open a close game
late in the first
half with a 14-5
run. The Lions took
a 30-20 lead at the
half and never
trailed over the
final 20 minutes of
play. A 10-0 run to
start the second
period put UNA in
control for good.
Dana Jackson and
Brianna Abrams added
10 points each for
UNA, who held a
commanding 52-33
advantage in
rebounding. The
balanced attack for
the Lions was a
result of much
contribution from
the bench, who
outscored its UWG
counterparts 28-9
for the game.
Whitley Mayberry led
the Wolves with 16
points on the day.
North Alabama will
host Valdosta State
on Sunday in a
rescheduled GSC
contest from earlier
in the week. Tip-off
is set for 1 p.m. at
Flowers Hall.
