FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama volleyball team started the second half of the Gulf South Conference season with a 3-0 home sweep over West Alabama Tuesday evening at Flowers Hall. The 25-13, 25-13, 25-22 victory gives UNA a 15-4 record on the year and completes the season sweep over the Tigers.
The Lions also maintained second place in the GSC standings with a 9-2 league record.
Jessica Austin led the way with 11 kills on the night. The sophomore middle hit .391 for the match and had five kills in the final set as UNA rallied for the win. Lexie Bradley added nine kills and a .400 hitting percentage while Andrea De Leon turned in a double-double with 33 assists and 13 digs.
Peyton Lang had a match-high 16 digs for UNA. The junior from Commerce Township, Mich., added to a solid outing with five kills, three service aces and an assist. Ashtyn Kapovich also had 11 digs to round out the top performers for the Lions.
West Alabama (7-11 overall, 5-6 GSC) was led by Briana Sandifer's eight kills on the night.
UNA will step outside of GSC play for a trio of regional matchups this weekend in Carrollton, Ga. The Lions will face Nova Southeastern, Tampa and Saint Leo at the South Region Crossover on the campus of the University of West Georgia.
