Men’s Basketball stumbles at Chattanooga

Kevin de Kovachich leads team with 18 points for sixth straight double figure game

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (November 17, 2025) – Sophomore guard Kevin de Kovachich had his sixth straight game with double-digit scoring to open the season, but defending NIT champion Chattanooga proved to be too much to overcome in a 71-57 loss for the University of North Alabama on Saturday in Tennessee.

The sophomore scored 18 points to match Chattanooga's Billy Smith for the game high. This also matches his season-high that he set against Lane College in the home opener.

The Lions (2-4) jumped ahead early with a 7-0 run, but the home-standing Mocs (3-3) settled in and tied the game at 13-13 with 8:06 remaining. The Mocs took a seven-point lead at the break and extended to double digits in the second half.

Despite being held to its lowest scoring output of the season, UNA shot 21-50 for 42 percent and went 6-20 behind the arc for 30 percent. The Mocs were able to seize momentum by going 11-33 from downtown (33 percent) while going 25-56 from the field (44.6 percent).

Redshirt junior Corneilous Williams had eight points and six rebounds, while senior Donte Bacchus added nine points and three rebounds. Junior Kedar Bodie led all bench players with eight points in 16 minutes of action.

The Lions finished 0-2 in the schedule alliance between the Atlantic Sun Conference and Southern Conference. UNA was edged by ETSU 78-74 last Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half: A triple by Dallas Howell started the game strong for the road team, then makes from Williams and de Kovachich made it 7-0 in the first three minutes. Down 13-9, Chattanooga went on an 8-0 run to go up 17-13 at the 7:39 mark. The Lions went cold from downtown, finishing the half 2-10 behind the arc. The final three minutes gave UNA more life, as Williams tied things up again at 21-21 with a dunk, then de Kovachich scored five more points for UNA down the stretch.

Second Half: Chattanooga held the lead the rest of the way, going 7-13 behind the arc to shoot over 50 percent from the three-point line and 14-23 from the field for over 60 percent shooting. UNA cut the lead to single digits early in the second half on two separate occasions, including triples from Bacchus and sophomore DarKaun King.
