NORMAN, Okla. (August 5, 2025) – The NCAA GCAA Platform Golf Team Academic Award winners were announced today with the North Alabama men's golf team named a recipient. A total of 292 schools were named a recipient across six divisions in the NCAA.

The Lions received the President's Special Recognition which highlights a 3.5 or above average team GPA. UNA was one of 74 teams to accomplish this feat across Division I.

North Alabama was the lone winner from the ASUN for this prestigious award. 
 
This comes on the heels of five Lion golfers being named to the GCAA Golf All-America Scholars list on July 29. North Alabama had four of its players named to the CSC Academic All-District earlier this summer, as well.
 
Chase Kaiser, Sebastian Bengtsson and Xing Luo also earned Academic All-ASUN awards after the spring season ended. The trio swept all three awards, claiming each of the above honors.
 
"Super proud of the team and their academic accomplishment," said The Schmitz Family Head Men's Golf Coach, Austin Phillips. "They deserve this and continue to excel in the classroom. They represent the University well by continuing to raise the bar academically and on the course."
 
North Alabama, according to available records, earned their highest ranking in school history at 78th in the nation. The Lions finished fourth at the ASUN Tournament, another team high as their previous best finish was fifth.
 
While their achievements on the course were spectacular, in the classroom was just as remarkable. The men's golf team finished with the highest male GPA amongst North Alabama teams. They boasted a collective 3.64 GPA, best for fourth amongst all sports. 
 
UNA's men's golf program now has earned 12 individual academic awards this off-season and now add their collective team award to the trophy case.
