UNA WOMEN FALL AT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE

CLINTON, Miss., – Mississippi College shot 64.5 percent from the floor in a decisive third quarter to claim a 91-80 Gulf South Conference home victory over the University of North Alabama women's basketball team on Monday.  The Choctaws outscored UNA 31-17 in the period and held on for the nine-point victory. With the loss, UNA falls to 2-11 on the season with a 1-6 mark in GSC play.
 
After taking a 14-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, North Alabama trailed 38-35 at the half. The Choctaws connected on a free throw before a basket by Katelyn Nunley cut the deficit to 37-35 early in the third quarter.
 
Mississippi College responded by hitting 12 of its next 17 shots from the floor, including a trio of three-point baskets over the next 8:55 of playing time. UNA trailed by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter before closing the game on an 18-8 run. The Lions got within single digits twice in the final minute of play before running out of time.
 
For the game, Mississippi College shot 61 percent from the floor and scored 18 points in transition. UNA did force 24 turnovers, which converted into 26 points.
 
KeKe Gunter led the Lions with 24 points. Nunley finished with 15 points and seven rebounds while Shunice Herron added 12 points for the game. Heath also reached double figures with 11 points for North Alabama.
 
Mississippi College (4-7 overall, 2-6 GSC) was led by Kristen Sampson's career-high 32 points. Clara Clemmons added a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Choctaws.
 
UNA will play at Christian Brothers Saturday at 2 p.m. before closing a four-game GSC road stretch two days later at Union.
