UNA VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS CHOCTAWS TO IMPROVE TO 15-1

FLORENCE – North Alabama needed less than an hour to sweep Mississippi College Saturday afternoon in Gulf South Conference volleyball action. The Lions raced out to double-digit leads in each set, cruising to a 25-10, 25-7, 25-12 victory. The sixth straight win and fifth straight sweep gives UNA a 15-1 overall record with a 7-1 mark in GSC play.
 
The Lions hit .458 for the match, including an impressive .800 showing in the second set. UNA jumped out to a 12-1 lead and finished the game with 12 kills on 15 swings with no attack errors.
 
Natasha Fomina hit .667 on the day and finished with a match-high 12 kills. UNA setter Jayden Davila-McClary added a double-double with 27 assists and 11 digs. She added five kills and five service aces for the Lions.
 
Mississippi College (8-9 overall, 1-8 GSC) struggled to score throughout the match. The Choctaws hit .000 in the first two sets before hitting -.107 in the final game to finish with a -.036 team hitting percentage. Three different MC players recorded three kills each.
 
 Ashtyn Kapovich and Peyton Lang added 10 digs each for North Alabama.
 
UNA will hit the road for its next three matches. The Lions will play at Valdosta State and West Florida next Friday and Saturday before traveling to West Alabama on Oct. 11.
