JACKSON, Tenn., – Natasha Fomina and Jessica Austin had 12 kills each as the University of North Alabama volleyball team swept Union 25-18, 25-16, 25-18 Saturday on the road. The win, along with a West Florida loss on the same day, puts the Lions into a tie for first place in the Gulf South Conference.

The fifth straight victory gives UNA a 23-4 record on the season. With a 13-3 GSC record, the Lions are tied with Shorter for the top spot in the GSC standings. The two teams split the regular-season series with each team winning at home. North Alabama, however, owns the tiebreaker against the Hawks by virtue of a 3-1 victory on Oct. 22 at Flowers Hall. Shorter defeated the Lions 3-2 on Sept. 16, in Rome, Ga. West Florida is also still in the mix with a 12-3 league mark.

Against Union, UNA hit .291 as a team. Jayden Davila-McClary added 39 assists while Peyton Lang just missed a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs. Ashtyn Kapovich also had 10 digs on the day.

Deja Moore led Union (9-18 overall, 6-10 GSC) with 11 kills.

UNA plays at UAH on Tuesday. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Spragins Hall.
