UNA TAKES SERIES WITH 4-2 WIN AT WEST GEORGIA

CARROLLTON, Ga., – Anna Gayle Norris was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and Hannah Bodenhorn recorded her first pitching victory of the season as the University of North Alabama softball team picked up a 4-2 series-clinching victory at West Georgia on Sunday. With the win, the Lions improve to 10-5 on the season and 2-1 in Gulf South Conference play.

After being shutout by UWG ace Kathryn Woody in the series opener on Saturday, the UNA bats found their rhythm early against the sophomore in the third game. The Lions plated two runs each in the top of the first and third innings.

Bodenhorn (1-0) made the most of her first start of the season. The sophomore from Mount Juliet, Tenn., worked the first 4.1 innings, scattering seven hits and holding the Wolves to a single earned run. Hillary Carpenter came in to pitch the final 2.2 scoreless innings to record the save.

Reagan Tittle gave UNA the early lead with a two-out, bases-loaded double in the top of the first inning. Two runs scored on the hit. Sydney Sanders was thrown out at the plate after trying to score from first base.

After UWG answered with a single run in the bottom of the first inning, Norris connected on a two-run home run in the top of the third for the Lions. The shot to left field also scored Bailey Nelson as UNA took a 4-1 lead.

West Georgia was able to answer with a single unearned run in the bottom of the third but could get no closer.

UNA will play a double-header at Miles on Thursday before returning to GSC play over the weekend. The Lions will host Shorter in a three-game series, beginning with a double-header at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
