STETSON DOWNS UNA VOLLEYBALL 3-0

DELAND, Fla., – The University of North Alabama volleyball came up short against home-standing Stetson on Saturday, falling 25-15, 25-17, 25-18  at the Edmunds Center on the SU campus. The loss gives UNA a 2-13 overall record with an 0-6 mark in ASUN Conference play.
 
Christian Ellwanger led UNA with seven kills and the Lions held Stetson without a player in double digits. The Hatters, however, had five players with at least four kills to improve to 12-6 overall and 4-2 in conference action.
 
UNA trailed 17-13 in the opening set before the Hatters closed the game on an 8-2 run. The Lions hits just .053 as a team while SU recorded a .464 team hitting percentage.
 
The Hatters again used a late surge to pull away down the stretch in the second set. A block by Malaisia Stallworth and Joise Maldonado followed by a service ace by Emma Ellis cut the Stetson lead to 20-17. The home team, however, responded with five straight points to win the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
Stetson led from wire to wire in the final set, grabbing a big lead and holding off a late UNA rally for the victory. After the Hatters raced out to a 20-8 lead, North Alabama closed the game on a 10-5 run before running out of time.
 
Jayden Davila-McClary also had nine assists and 10 digs for the Lions. Ellis finished with eight assists and eight digs on the night.
 
UNA will play at NJIT on Tuesday. Match time is set for 7 p.m. (EST) at the Events and Wellness Center on the NJIT campus in Newark, N.J.
