FLORENCE – Alabama A&M picked up a tiebreaker in the third set at No. 1 singles to secure a 4-3 victory over the University of North Alabama men's tennis team Tuesday at UNA Varsity Tennis Courts. The loss leaves the Lions with a 1-10 record on the season.

With five of the six singles matches going to three sets, the Bulldogs were able to hold off UNA down the stretch, winning three of the final four matches.

AAMU posted wins at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles to grab an early lead. The Lions, however, answered quickly in singles play. Cade Reasons posted a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles to tie the match. It would be the only straight sets match of the day.

After losing the opening set at No. 2 singles, Oscar Meslin rallied with two wins to give UNA a brief 2-1 advantage.

Alabama A&M responded with singles wins at No. 3 and No. 4 to come within a point of victory. A rally by Georgie Markos at No. 6, however, extended the match. The junior from Jackson, Tenn., overcame an opening-set loss to edge 7-5 and 8-6 victories and tie the overall match at 3-3.

At the top spot, A&M's Hsiang Yi Wang outlasted Jason Pimenta to clinch the win for the Bulldogs. Pimenta won the opening set 6-4 before Wang posted 8-6 and 7-6 victories. A 7-2 win in the tiebreaker of the third set sealed the win.

UNA will now turn its attention to ASUN Conference play. The Lions will host Lipscomb Saturday at 10 a.m. before welcoming Liberty to town the following Monday at 11 a.m.
