FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of North Alabama built a 21-9 halftime lead and rolled to a 41-21 win on Homecoming over Presbyterian at Braly Stadium.
It was the Lions 15
th consecutive Homecoming win and it ups UNA's record to 2-3 overall. Presbyterian falls to 0-4.
North Alabama pushed its advantage to 41-15 early in the fourth quarter before a late Presbyterian score made the final count 41-21.
UNA finished with 428 total yards with 211 rushing and 217 passing. Quarterback
Christian Lopez was 13-of-22 with three touchdown passes.
Cortez Hall had five catches for 97 yards and
Dexter Boykin had two catches for 73 yards and two scores.
Terence Humphrey rushed five times for 94 yards and a touchdown.
Presbyterian got on the scoreboard first when the Blue Hose sacked UNA quarterback
Christian Lopez for a safety at 11:38 of the first quarter.
North Alabama got its first score of the day near the end of the opening period when Lopez hits
Dexter Boykin with a 55-yard touchdown pass.
Joe Gurley added the extra point and UNA led 7-2 with 1:18 left in the quarter.
On the Lions next possession,
Terence Humphrey circled left end and went 88 yards for a touchdown. It was the seventh longest run in UNA history. Gurley PAT's made it 14-2 with 12:26 left in the second quarter.
Presbyterian closed the gap with a touchdown on its next possession. Brandon Thompson passed 16 yards to Jaiden Turner for the score and Parker Maddrey's PAT made it 14-9 at 8:20 of the second quarter.
UNA pushed its halftime advantage to 21-9 with another TD pass from Lopez to Boykin from 18 yards. Gurley added the PAT.
In the third quarter, UNA got a five-yard TD pass from Lopez to
Andre Little to make it 28-9 at 11:03 of the third quarter and a Gurley 21-yard field goal made it 31-9 with 5:23 left in the third.
Thompson threw a 47-yard TD pass to Dohnte Meyers to close to gap to 31-15 at 3:54 of the third but the PAT failed.
UNA got its first defensive score of the season as
A.J. Bracey returned an interception 18 yards at the 2:25 mark of the third. Gurley's PAT made it 38-15.
A 30-yard Gurley field goal at 14:05 of the fourth quarter made it 41-15 and Presbyterian added a late score with 1:24 left on a one-yard pass from Tyler Huff to Keith Pearson to make the final score 41-21.
North Alabama plays at Hampton on October 5.
