UNA VOLLEYBALL COMES UP SHORT AT SAMFORD

BIRMINGHAM – The University of North Alabama volleyball team opened play at the Samford Invitational with a 3-0 loss to the host Bulldogs Friday in Birmingham. With the 25-15, 25-20, 25-14 loss, UNA falls to 1-3 on the year, while Samford evens its record at 2-2.
 
Three players reached double figures in kills for Samford, which entered the match coming off a 3-2 win over No. 24 Arizona last weekend. UNA struggled at the net, hitting .143 on the night.
 
Alyssa Dutton had eight kills to lead the Lions. It was the third time in the first four match that the freshman from Jasper produced team-high kill totals. Breylee Linder added 22 assists for the Lions.
 
Defensively, Mackenzie Sullivan's seven digs led the way.
 
UNA will play in-state foes UAB (10:30 a.m.) and Jacksonville State (5 p.m.) at the event on Saturday. All matches are at the Pete Hanna Center on the Samford campus.
