FLORENCE – After trailing by as many as 11 points early in the second half, the University of North Alabama men's basketball team rallied to post a 62-57 home win over Jacksonville Thursday in the ASUN Conference opener for both teams. With the win, UNA improves to 6-8 on the season and 1-0 in league play.

Christian Agnew scored a game-high 15 points and added seven rebounds, two assists and five steals as North Alabama used a solid defensive outing in the second half to rally for the win. UNA trailed 37-28 at the break and faced a 39-28 deficit after an early basket by the Dolphins.

UNA slowly chipped away at the Jacksonville lead by getting defensive stops. After JU shot 52 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, the Dolphins were held to an 8-for-23 showing in the second half, including an 0-for-5 mark from three-point range.

Jacksonville led 51-43 with 9:49 remaining when the Lions used a 10-0 run to grab their first lead since early in the game. C.J. Mervin James and James Anderson, II each hit 1-of-2 free throws to tie the game before Jamari Blackmon connected on a pair of free throws to give UNA a 53-51 lead with 5:31 remaining.

After the Dolphins answered with four straight points to regain the lead, James hit two more free throws to tie the game at 55-55 with 2:42 to play. Jacksonville went ahead again on two free throws by David Bell. The Lions, however, closed the game on a 7-0 run.

A three-pointer by Blackmon with 1:48 remaining gave North Alabama the lead for good and the Lions forced turnovers on the next two JU possessions to seal the win. After Agnew and Emanuel Littles each hit 1-of-2 free throws, UNA grabbed a defensive rebound and Anderson hit two foul shots with 11.3 seconds left to put the game out of reach.
