LIONS TOP STETSON 73-66 IN OVERTIME FOR 500TH WIN AT FLOWERS HALL

FLORENCE – Jamari Blackmon led three players in double figures as the University of North Alabama men's basketball team defeated Stetson 73-66 in overtime Saturday evening at home. The win, which marked the 500th all-time victory at Flowers Hall, gives UNA a 5-3 record on the season and evens the team's ASUN Conference mark at 1-1 on the year.

UNA outscored the Hatters 12-5 in the extra period after Stetson rallied at the end of regulation. A three-point basket by James Anderson gave the Lions a 57-42 lead with 6:17 remaining. North Alabama, however, struggled down the stretch, committing six turnovers and hitting only one shot from the floor.

Stetson's Christiaan Jones hit two free throws with 45 seconds remaining to tie the game at 61-61. After getting a defensive stop on the ensuing possession, the Hatters had a chance to win the game. A jumper by Jones, however, was off the mark and the Lions grabbed the defensive rebound as time expired.

A quick Stetson basket in overtime gave the Lions their first deficit since the game's opening moments. The two teams traded scores until the Lions got baskets from Anderson and Isaac Chatman to grab a 69-65 lead with 1:31 remaining.

The Hatters missed their final four shots from the floor while UNA went 4-of-4 from the free throw line to secure the win.

UNA led 33-28 at the half after shooting 50 percent (13-of-26) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes of play. Blackmon connected on a trio of three-pointers in the first half and finished the game 6-of-10 from long range.

Anderson finished with 13 points on the night while Mervin James scored 11 points before fouling out near the end of regulation. Chase Johnston led Stetson (3-5) with 19 points.

North Alabama is scheduled to continue ASUN play with two games at Kennesaw State next weekend. The first game is set for 5 p.m. (Central) on the KSU campus. Saturday's game is slated for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
