BELMONT DOWNS UNA VOLLEYBALL AT MUSIC CITY INVITE

NASHVILLE, Tenn., – Despite three players reaching double digits in kills, the University of North Alabama volleyball team came up on the short end of a 3-1 decision at Belmont Friday at the Music City Invitational. The 17-25, 24-26, 25-17, 20-25 loss to the host Bruins leaves UNA with a 1-5 record on the season.
 
After dropping the opening set, the Lions were unable to pull even after pushing the second game to extra points. A 25-17 victory in the third frame helped UNA avoid the sweep, but a late Belmont surge in the fourth set proved to be the difference in the match.
 
AK Griggs turned in a career-high 14 kills on the night. The junior from Arab added three blocks and a .250 hitting percentage. Fellow junior Maggie Sullivan also reached a new career-high with 13 kills after hitting .407 for the match. The Tuscaloosa native has hit .436 over the last two matches.
 
Katy Floyd also reached double figures with 11 kills for North Alabama. Breylee Linder paced the offensive attack with 26 assists. Camy Kling added 12 assists for the Lions.
 
Defensively, Linder's 19 digs led the way for her second double-double of the season. Tatum Fouche also had 16 digs on the night.
 
Three players also reached double figures in kills for Belmont (2-0), including Laura Shoopman's match-high 18 kills.
 
UNA will remain in Nashville to play Alcorn State for the second time in three days. The Lions will face the Braves Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at Belmont's Curb Event Center.
