LIONS VOLLEYBALL FALLS AT AUSTIN PEAY

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn., – Maggie Sullivan and Taylor Floyd had 11 kills each but the University of North Alabama volleyball team hit just .130 as a team in a 3-1 loss Friday evening at Austin Peay. The 17-25, 25-21, 21-25, 22-25 setback leaves the Lions with a 12-9 overall record and 2-7 mark in ASUN Conference play.
 
After falling in the opener, UNA had its best showing in the second set. The Lions hit .306as a team and had 15 kills in the game to even the match.
 
The Govs, however, responded in the next two sets. Following an early 7-3 lead by the Lions in the third set, Austin Peay reeled off six straight points to grab the lead. UNA later led 15-14 on a kill by Hayley Martin, but another 7-0 run by the home team put ASPU in position for the win.
 
The fourth set featured a similar script. UNA again raced out to an early 7-3 lead only to watch the Governors rally. An attack error against ASPU gave the Lions their last lead at 16-15. The Governors answered with six straight points to take control.
 
A kill by Floyd fought off ASPU's first match point. A kill by the home team then ended the match.
 
Martin finished with nine kills for the Lions. Breylee Linder added 31 assists after entering in the second set. Ella Ratzloff also recorded 17 digs on the night.
 
UNA will play at Lipscomb on Saturday. Match time is set for 6 p.m. at Allen Arena on the LU campus in Nashville.
