VOLLEYBALL LIONS TAKE DOWN QUEENS 3-1

FLORENCE – Maggie Sullivan had 11 kills and eight blocks to lead the University of North Alabama volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Queens Sunday afternoon at Flowers Hall. The 25-17, 25-15, 21-25, 25-20 victory gives the Lions a 13-13 overall record with a 3-11 mark in ASUN Conference play.
 
Against the Royals, UNA shined on defense, holding the visitors to a .034 team hitting percentage. Seven different players recorded at least one block for the Lions, who also notched 87 digs as a team.
 
After taking control with wins in the first two sets, UNA could not complete the sweep in the third set. Queens, which hit .000 in the opening set and -.061 in the second, held off a late rally by the Lions in the third to extend the match.
 
In the fourth frame, Taylor Floyd had five of her 11 kills to help seal the win.
 
Elif Ozsoy had 28 assists before Kennedey Johnson entered at setter and recorded nine assists in the final game.
 
Sullivan moved to fourth place in the ASUN with 102 total blocks on the year. The senior from Tuscaloosa now has 192 career blocks.
 
Five Lions reached double figures in digs, including Ella Ratzloff's team-high 22 digs. Katie Gerig added 20 digs while Ozsoy picked up 15 digs on the day. Floyd had 12 digs while Katy Floyd recorded 11 digs for the match.
 
UNA will play at Jacksonville State on Friday. Match time is set for 6 p.m. at Pete Matthews Coliseum.
