UNA VOLLEYBALL GETS 3-0 SWEEP OVER ALABAMA STATE

FLORENCE – Katy Floyd had 11 kills and Anna Katherine Griggs added six blocks as the University of North Alabama volleyball team remained undefeated on the season with a 3-0 sweep over Alabama State Wednesday evening at Flowers Hall. The 25-16, 25-20, 25-20 gives the Lions a 6-0 record.
 
Both teams struggled to find kills throughout the match and combined for 53 attack errors. ASU hit -.042 on the night. The Hornets had 34 errors on 119 swings. UNA recorded eight total team blocks. Griggs notched two solo blocks and four block assists, including the final three points of the match to seal the win for the Lions.
 
North Alabama had its best showing in the opening set. Taylor Floyd had four kills and UNA hit .258 as a team.
 
Alabama State remained in striking distance in the final two sets but could never take the lead. Katy Floyd had six kills in the second set and Griggs had five blocks in the final frame.
 
Taylor Floyd finished with nine kills and a match-high 11 digs while Elif Ozsoy turned in 27 assists on the night. Ella Ratzloff also reached double figures with 10 digs for the Lions.
 
UNA will travel to Morehead, Ky., next weekend for a trio of matches at the Morehead State Comfort Inn-Vitational.
