Adriana Wright picked up her NCAA best 11th shutout of the season in a scoreless draw against Central Arkansas on Saturday in Conway, Ark. This game serves as the regular season finale for UNA, who has clinched fourth place in the ASUN Conference standings.
North Alabama moves to 9-5-5 (5-3-3 ASUN), while the second place Bears close the regular season at 8-6-5 (7-1-3 ASUN).
With 18 points, the Lions have clinched fourth place in the ASUN conference standings. In the ASUN preseason coaches poll, the Lions were predicted to finish in 12th place out of 12 teams. The ASUN tournament is played at host sites of the top four seeds. North Alabama will host the 5/8 seed match on Thursday, Oct. 26 before taking on the winner in the quarterfinals on Sunday, Oct. 29 at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex. Both the five and eight seeds will be determined later this evening once all regular season matches are complete.
Wright picked up her NCAA leading 11th shutout of the season over second place Central Arkansas, stopping two shots on the way. The Alabama-Huntsville transfer has tallied 61 saves on the season and is allowing an ASUN leading 0.579 goals per match. Wright's save percentage of .847 puts her at third in the conference.
The senior holds the UNA individual single season record for most shutouts in a season with 11. With the scoreless tie, the Lions have tied the team single season record for shutouts, which was previously set at 11 during the 2014 season.
North Alabama outshot UCA 7-5, with a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. The pair of goalkeepers stopped all five shots they faced in the match. UNA out earned Central Arkansas 8-3 on corner kicks, leaving the Lions with a 123-35 advantage over opponents so far this season.
The Lions are set to play the winner of the 5/8 seed match in the ASUN Conference Tournament that will be decided following the Lipscomb vs. Austin Peay match tonight at 7 p.m.
