NASHVILLE, Tenn. (October 28, 2023) – The University of North Alabama men's cross country program ran at the 2023 Atlantic Sun Conference Championships at Percy Warner Park in Nashville on Saturday, ending with a ninth-place finish.
The men finished with 227 points ahead of Jacksonville (269), Austin Peay (362) and Kennesaw State (No score) to crack the top 10 teams. EKU won the meet with three in the top five, including champion Taha Er Raouy with a time of 24:05.82.
The Lions were paced by graduate runners
Fedrick Kipyego and
Brandon Lee, who finished in the 30-40 place range in a field of over 100 athletes. Kipyego was on the front end of that in 31st with a time of 25:30.81, while Lee finished 38th at 25:50.83. Kipyego's time has been fairly consistent with his last three meets, but this meet's time is the fastest of the group by two seconds.
Junior
Adam Nipper was the third Lion to cross with a time of 26:41.39 for 58th, while fellow junior
Connor Jackson was 66th with a time of 26:55.79. True freshman
Brent Lyons was UNA's final scorer, jumping 12 spots from the first split to place 71st at 27:03.90.
Mason Schrader crossed with him at 27:05.88.
The fall season concludes with the 2023 NCAA South Region Championship on Friday, Nov. 10 in Gainesville, Fla.
