ATLANTA, Ga. -- Of the 11 members named to the 2023 ASUN Conference All-Academic Beach Volleyball team, three are from the University of North Alabama with the selections of
Mackenzie Martin,
Martha McLaurin and
Paula Klemperer.
In addition to their work in the classroom, the trio has helped the Lions post a school-record 19 wins this season while earning a No. 4 seed at the upcoming ASUN Conference Toiurnament.
Martin, a junior from Hoover, Ala., and four-year member of the UNA program, has a 4.00 cumulative grade point average in Exercise Science. She has a 24-8 record this season, which is the most wins by any Lion in 2023. She is 1-0 playing at No. 1 and 23-8 at No. 2. Primarily paired at No. 2 with
Katy Floyd, the duo has a 20-8 record this season. Her 57 career wins are second best in school history and she has played in 94 career matches with the Lions.
McLaurin, a junior from Gulf Shores, Ala., has a 3.93 cumulative GPA in Health and Fitness. A two-year member of the UNA team, she has an 18-14 record this season, playing exclusively with
Selma Robinson as UNA's No. 3 pair. She posted 15 wins last season while helping the Lions win three matches in the ASUN Tournament and 16 team wins overall.
Klemperer, a senior from Hildesheim, Germany, has a 4.0 GPA in Business Administration. She is the only member of the current Lion team who has played at UNA for all five seasons of the beach program's existence. She has a 23-10 overall record this season, including a 19-10 mark playing as the No. 1 pair with
Taylor Seney. The duo received an ASUN Pair of the Week honor during the 2023 season and has won 10 of its last 11 matches entering this weekend's ASUN Conference Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. They are also undefeated in conference play.
Klemperer is the winningest individual in program history with a 58-30 record in 88 matches played. She also has the most career wins at No. 1 with 40.
