(August 31, 2023) – The University of North Alabama soccer team faces a pair of teams over the weekend, traveling to Bowling Green, Ky. for a Friday night matchup with Western Kentucky before returning home to the Bill Jones Athletic Complex for a noon kickoff against Alcorn State on Sunday, Sept. 3.

Western Kentucky Series History: UNA Soccer has an all-time record of 1-0 against Western Kentucky. The lone meeting between the two schools came in a 4-1 Lion victory over the Hilltoppers on February 6, 2021. This was UNA's lone win of the "2020" season that was pushed to spring 2021 due to COVID.
Scouting Western Kentucky: Western Kentucky enters the match with a record of 1-1-2. They lost their previous match to Xavier by a final score of 5-1 on August 27. The Hilltoppers are led by head coach Jason Neidell who is in his 22nd season with the program.
First Ever Meeting Between UNA and Alcorn State: North Alabama has never met Alcorn State in soccer, however the Lions have had several meetings with SWAC schools, including a 2-0 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on August 27. The Lions have a 14-1-0 record all-time against schools in the SWAC for women's soccer.
Scouting Alcorn State: Alcorn State enters their Friday match with Jacksonville State with a 0-3 record. The Braves are led by head coach Jenna Wallace who is in her first season at the helm of the women's soccer program.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff Recap: With the help from two newcomers, North Alabama powered to their first victory of the season over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 2-0. With a shutout from
Adriana Wright, the Lions completed a convincing win in difficult weather conditions.
First Impressions: All three North Alabama goals this season have come from newcomers. The Lions first goal of the season came by way of Western Illinois transfer
Olivia Heinert against Southern Illinois. The other two UNA scores came from Belmont Abbey transfer
Goose Andrews and freshman
Abby Thornton against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on August 27.
Iron Horses: Briana Eads and
Adriana Wright are the only two UNA players to have played in all 360 minutes so far this season. Eads and Wright were both instrumental in North Alabama's first shutout of the season on August 27 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Eads was a part of the back line that only allowed three shots on target while Wright stopped all three shots that came her way en route to her first clean sheet as a Lion.
