CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (September 26, 2023) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team completed a successful tournament on Tuesday at the APSU Intercollegiate in Clarksville, Tenn. with three top 10 finishers and a second place overall showing as a team.
In what appeared to be a three-way race for second place between UNA, Butler and Belmont, the Lions emerged with an eight-over-par 296 in the final round to comfortably lead the Bulldogs by 12 strokes and the Bruins by 23 strokes. The Lions' three round score was 303-295-296=894.
Three Lions earned top 10 finishes, including senior
Allycia Gan who moved up one spot to crack the top five. Gan shot the second-lowest round in the finale with a one-under-par 71 to finish strong at three-over-par 219. She was one of three players in the field of 39 to record a round under par on Tuesday.
Tied for fifth alongside Gan was junior teammate
Jahnavi Prakhya with a consistent score of 74-72-73=219 over three rounds. Prakhya overcame a +3 score at the turn with back-to-back birdies on 11 and 12 and parred the rest of the way to remain among the top five.
Both Gan and Prakhya were just four strokes away from tying the lowest three-round tournament score in program history set by
Jackie Klemm this past Spring.
Starting outside the top 10 heading into the final round, junior
Hannah Dees had a one-over-par 73 round — her best round of the tournament — to take the final spot in the top 10 with a score of 77-74-73=224. Dees birdies the first and last holes to get her score down.
Senior
Tori Roush finished T-15, while redshirt freshman teammate
Kerigan Klauber finished T-22 to round out the lineup for North Alabama. Each posted one birdie on the day.
Fellow ASUN member and tournament host Austin Peay won the event with a one-under-par 863 score for the tournament, including a low round of 282 on the first day. The Govs had three of the top five finishers, including a tie for first between teammates Kady Foshaug and Erica Shutt at five-under-par 211.
Behind UNA, Butler and Belmont was Eastern Illinois and Tennessee State to round out the team leaderboard.
Up next for the Lions is the Lady Red Wolves Classic hosted by Arkansas State on Oct. 16-17 at the Sage Meadows Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark.
