FLORENCE, Ala. (September 27, 2023) – North Alabama Men's Tennis will have a busy weekend, as the Lions prep for split squad action with a pair tournaments in Tulsa, Okla. and Birmingham, Ala. this Friday through Sunday, Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
Starting on Friday, the Lions will compete in the Samford Hidden Duals, while sophomore Lachlan Brain will represent the Lions at the ITA All-American Championships on Saturday, Sept. 30.
UNA is coming off an appearance at the Jax State Invite, where they claimed the top spot in the tournament. It was highlighted by 23 overall wins by the Lions with freshmen Izan Orgiles and Alberto Altur claiming the title in the double's final.
ABOUT THE SAMFORD HIDDEN DUAL
The Samford Hidden Dual will see North Alabama compete in doubles and singles action against Jacksonville State, UAB, and host Samford over the course of three days. UNA will start at 1 p.m. on Friday against against Samford in doubles, followed by JSU in singles. The Lions will kickoff Saturday with singles action against UAB at 9 a.m., and that will lead to their doubles match against Jacksonville State at noon.
On the final day, UNA will take the court against UAB in doubles with the invitational ending with singles against Samford. More information on draws and match times can be found on SamfordSports.com.
ABOUT THE 2023 ITA ALL-AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Lachlan Brain will be the lone representative from North Alabama as he will head to Tulsa, Okla. to compete in the ITA All-American Championships. Featuring players from Division I schools all across the country, Brain's appearance marks the first time in UNA Tennis history that a player will represent the Lions at the prestigious tournament.
The format will be best two-out-of-three with the pre-qualifying first and second rounds starting on Saturday, Sept. 30. Sunday, Oct. 1 will end with the third round, qualifying round singles and a round of consolation matches.
