JONESBORO, Ark. (October 14, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team finished better than it started on Monday at the Lady Red Wolves Classic in Arkansas on Monday, moving up to 10th place of 17 teams after two rounds.
A senior and a freshman were the two leaders for North Alabama through two rounds, as fourth-year senior Hannah Dees and rookie Olivia Whittle were each four-over-par 148 to tie for 17th. Dees went one-over in the second round, while Whittle had a pair of consistent 74s.
Dees led the Lions with five birdies on the day, including one on her first hole (12) to start one-under. She remained even or better through 12 holes in the first round before landing at three-over.
Just one stroke behind Dees and Whittle is fellow freshman Sirichaya Chanpen at five-over-par 149 to tie for 24th. She tied Dees for the low-round in the second with a one-over 73, including two birdies. She had two in each round on four different holes.
Rounding out the Lions were redshirt sophomore Kerigan Klauber at 14-over-par, followed by senior Jahnavi Prakhya at 15-over.
The Lions started near the bottom of the 17-team field with a 16-over team score, but shaved seven strokes off that total in the second round to have the sixth-lowest round at nine-over.
Louisiana-Monroe is the team leader through two rounds in Jonesboro with a four-over-par 580, followed by Troy, Little Rock, Memphis and Central Arkansas. The Lions are in a healthy competition with fellow Atlantic Sun Conference school EKU, as the Colonels lead UNA by just one stroke at 24-over 600 to 25-over 601.
UNA is currently leading Murray State, Texas A&M Commerce, UT Arlington, Austin Peay, West Georgia, Mississippi College and TAMU-Corpus Christi.
The individual leader is Anna Andrysova of ULM at five-under-par, including 11 birdies.
The Lions tee off again tomorrow with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start. UNA will start on holes 12-14.
