GADSDEN, Ala. (March 10, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team wrapped up day one of the Chris Banister Golf Classic tied for third place with tournament host Jacksonville State at RTJ Silver Lakes in Gadsden, Ala. 
  
UNA is led by Allycia Gan in fourth place, who is chasing her fifth-straight top ten tournament finish. 
  
UNA packed up the first round of the tournament with a 24-over-par 312 total. Tournament leader Chattanooga punched the only sub-300 score with a 295, followed by Illinois State with a 307. North Alabama is tied with in-state opponent and tournament host Jacksonville State. The Lions are trailed by Northern Colorado, Queens, South Alabama and Stonehill. 
  
Gan enters the tournament with four consecutive top 10 tournament finishes following a seventh-place finish at the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate. The senior from Selangor, Malaysia wrapped up the first round of the tournament with two-over-par 74, leaving her tied for fourth just three strokes back of the tournament lead. Gan tallied par on 12 of her 18 holes on day one, while picking up birdies on holes 10 and 15. 
  
Kerigan Klauber and Jahnavi Prakhya followed Gan after round one, turning in matching cards of seven-over-par 79 to tie 21st place after the opening round. Hannah Dees finished one stroke back, tied for 24th with an 80, while senior Tori Roush tied for 28th with an 81. 
  
The Lions finished with the second most birdies of any team in the tournament with 10. Klauber tallied a team-high three birdies on holes 1, 13 and 17. UNA followed up with seven birdies on the back nine after having just three on the front nine. 
  
The tournament continues on Monday, March 11 with round two before concluding on Tuesday, March 12 with the third and final round.
