GULF SHORES, Ala. (March 19, 2024) – University of North Alabama junior
Jahnavi Prakhya jumped four spots into sixth place to highlight UNA in the second and final round of the Bama Beach Bash on Tuesday in Gulf Shores, Ala.
UNA punched in the fourth-best second round of any team to jump into seventh place at the UAB-hosted tournament.
North Alabama wrapped up the second round with a 302 total, tied for the fourth-best round of the day with Austin Peay and Tarleton State to jump two spots into seventh place with a 606 total. The Lions closed out the two-round tournament just two strokes behind fifth-place Central Arkansas. Sam Houston took home the tournament crown with a 585 total. The Bearkats were followed by Oral Roberts, UNC Asheville, Austin Peay, Central Arkansas NC A&T and UNA.
The Lions finished in the top half of the competition, beating out the likes of Tarleton State, Southern Illinois, Jacksonville, tournament host UAB, Omaha, Drake, Ohio, Winthrop, Lindenwood and South Alabama.
Prakhya led the Lions after back-to-back rounds of 73, totaling out to a 146. The junior tallied three birdies on the second day to tie for sixth place, her highest finish of the spring season. Prakhya earned two consecutive top 10 finishes to open up the fall before picking up her third of the season at the Bama Beach Bash.
Allycia Gan brought her total to 152 with a second round 75, jumping 13 spots to tie for 27th place in the tournament. With the 27th place finish, Gan's streak of five consecutive top 10 finishes comes to a close. Redshirt Freshman
Kerigan Klauber finished the tournament with 26 birdies, the fourth-most of any individual and tied for 35th place with a 154 total.
Hannah Dees and
Tori Roush rounded out all UNA individuals tying for 50th place with a 157. Dees jumped 22 spots with a second round 76 and was UNA's highest riser in round two.
Prakhya finished the tournament with 28 birdies — the second most of any golfer — trailing just Zulaikah Nasser of Sam Houston with 29.
The tournament was originally slated to be 54 holes, but due to weather conditions on the first day, it was shortened to 36 holes.
UNA travels to Panama City Beach, Fla. to participate in the Lady Bison Classic hosted by Lipscomb at Bay Point Golf Club on March 22-24.
