APEX, N.C. (September 15, 2024) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team heads to Apex, N.C. on Sept. 16-17 for the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, hosted by N.C. State at The Club of 12 Oaks. This will be the first of five tournaments the Lions have scheduled for the fall season.

NOTES

NEW TERRITORY: The Wolfpack Intercollegiate will be the first tournament for the season for the Lions. It will also be the first time that they have competed in North Carolina as a team in during the Division I era in school's history. The NCAA Division II South Regional was hosted in Wilson, N.C. in 2010. 

THE BREAKDOWN: N.C. State is the host school for the tournament, but the Club of 12 Oaks is running the tournament as a whole. Players will tee off at 9 a.m. by way of a shotgun start. The course is a par 72 roughly 7,105 yards in total. Thirteen teams will compete in the tournament, including ASUN opponents Bellarmine, Jacksonville and Queens. NC State is the lone Power Four team in the competition. 

LAST SEASON REWIND: North Alabama competed in five fall tournaments in 2023. Head coach Austin Phillips and the Lions finished in the top-half of four of the five tournaments, while two saw top-three finishes for the team. UNA hosted and won their own MartinFed Invitational played at Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club against 11 teams. The Lions will host the Turtle Point Invite on Oct. 14-15, 2024.

TRIFECTA: The Lions have a trio of junior Eric Luo, junior Sebastian Bengtsson and sophomore Andrew Ferworn that head the way. All three are one of 11 current and former players to post one of the Lowest Division I Individual Rounds in school history. Luo has two with a score of 67 at both the first Round of 2024 Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate and the first round of 2023 Iowa Fall Classic. Ferworn posted a 67 at the first round of the 2023 Iowa Fall Classic and a 65 at the second round of the Graeme McDowell Invitational. Bengtsson rounds out the group with a 66 at the second round of the 2024 Savannah Intercollegiate. 

THE X(ING) FACTOR: Xing (Eric) Luo is one of the top golfers returning for the Lions this season. He returns to this team posting the best Division I era two round individual tournament total with a 140 at the 2024 Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate. He is third all-time in school history for lowest season stroke average with a 72.69 during 2023-24. During the Fall 2023 season, he posted the second lowest individual stroke average with a 71.73. Luo was awarded the ASUN Conference Golfer of the Week honor on April 4, 2024 and named to the All-ASUN conference Freshman team in 2024.
