FLORENCE, Ala. (September 9, 2024) – Chalk another one up for the rookies.
For the third consecutive week, the University of North Alabama claimed the United Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week award, announced Monday afternoon. Freshman linebacker
Josh Anglin was this week's recipient.
The rookie linebacker made his first career start on Saturday against No. 21 Illinois State, leading with a game-high 12 tackles. Of those tackles, five were solo stops and two were tackles for loss. Anglin also forced a fumble.
Freshman running back
Jalen Fletcher won the first award two weeks ago against SEMO, then freshman defensive lineman
Fred Vili followed suit last weekend at Memphis. Anglin is the fourth Lion to win the award in two seasons. The other is
Jyheam Ingram, now a sophomore, at Austin Peay in 2023.
UNA now claims the most freshman of the week awards in league history with four. This tops Utah Tech and Austin Peay with three, Southern Utah and former member Stephen F. Austin with two, and Abilene Christian with one.
Anglin and the Lions return to action on Saturday at UT Martin. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Hardy M. Graham Stadium in Martin, Tenn.
