NOTES
LAST TIME OUT: North Alabama wrapped up its home tournament with a Team A victory at the Turtle Point Invitational earlier this month. The win marked UNA's 12th team title at Turtle Point in program history and the seventh of the Division I era. UNA claimed its second win of the season after first winning the GMAC Invitational on Sept. 23. The Lions finished 20 strokes ahead of second-place Southeastern Louisiana — the only other team to finish under par. UNA's 842 stroke score ties the 2025 GMAC Invitational for the fifth-best Division I three round team total in program history. The Lions earned the best with an 830 at the Golfweek Fall Challenge to begin the year.
MR. 10: The Schmitz Family Head Men's Golf Coach Austin Phillips recently won his 10th NCAA team title after the Lions win at Turtle Point. This is Phillips' sixth team win while at North Alabama as he had four at the Division II Cameron University. Phillips is in his third season with the Lions with two tournament wins each season while overseeing four All-ASUN Conference selections. This season, he aims for a team berth to the NCAA Regionals for the first time in school history.
THE BREAKDOWN: FAU is the host school for the Florida Atlantic Invitational where a total of 16 teams will compete — the most in a tournament for the Lions this season. The Florida Atlantic Invitational tees off on Monday starting at 6:30 a.m. CT with the first Lion, Jedd Brady, beginning at 7:15 a.m. The course is a par 72 and spans 7,560 yards at the Panther National Course.
THE FIELD: Seventeen teams will compete in the tournament. Host school Florida Atlantic will be joined by several in-state programs, including No. 10 Florida (sending individuals) and No. 76 South Florida having teams. Alabama-based teams such as Samford, Jacksonville State and Troy accompany UNA. A couple of Atlantic Sun Conference opponents join in on the fun in No. 100 Stetson, Jacksonville and West Georgia. UCF, Tarleton State, Creighton, Seton Hall, Abilene Christian, Campbell and Navy round out the field.
RANKED: Last season, the Lions earned their highest recorded national ranking at No. 78, according to Scoreboard. This season, the Lions opened the first rankings at 98th with two wins and a trio of top-two finishes. Junior Andrew Ferworn debuts in the top-200 at 190th amongst golfers across the nation. Last season, the top 81 teams were invited to the NCAA Regionals with 45 individuals not on those teams awarded a place – senior Xing Luo was one of the 45 enlisted to participate.
