Women’s Basketball bounces Fisk on Elementary Day, 75-42

Lions triumph over Lady Bulldogs; secure first 2-0 start since 2019-20

FLORENCE, Ala. (November 6, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team soared to a second-straight win Thursday morning with a 75-42 win in CB&S Bank Arena against Fisk.

The Lions (2-0) earned their second season win on Elementary Day with the help of over 1,500 students in the morning matinee. UNA led from wire-to-wire, securing the team's first 2-0 start since the 2019-20 season.


The matchup started close after quarter one, but the Lions took off in the second using a 23-point frame. A low-scoring third quarter gave way to a 27-point fourth quarter to send the kids home happy in the 33-point victory.


North Alabama remains undefeated against Fisk with UNA moving to 7-0 all-time against the Lady Bulldogs.


The Lions had three double-digit scorers but were led by sophomore Sofia Ceppellotti. The sophomore continued her great season start with 16 points on an efficient 7-13 shooting (53.8 percent). Ceppellotti also paced the Lions with seven rebounds to go with two blocks and an assist. The 16 points marked a new career high for the Italy native.


The newcomers also made their marks with junior Cameron McNamara and redshirt senior Alexsandra Alvarado chipping in 15 points to finish second on the team.

McNamara hit her targets all night, going 7-9 from the field along with six rebounds, one steal and one block. Alvarado's breakout performance saw the Richmond, Calif. native go 6-12 from the field with a team-high six assists and three three-pointers made.

Sophomore Venla Ulander tied Alvarado for a team-leading two steals while senior Jazzy Klinge led the Lions with three blocks.


HOW IT HAPPENED


FIRST QUARTER: UNA 14, FISK 10


The Lions and Lady Bulldogs had a nearly-even first quarter, but UNA began with the early advantage. Five Lions got on the scoreboard with McNamara and graduate Bukky Akinsola setting the tone with four points. North Alabama made the paint their home with all 14 points coming from inside. The defense also started strong with three early blocks.



SECOND QUARTER: UNA 37, FISK 16

It was all North Alabama in the second frame, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 23-6 to increase the lead to 37-16. UNA scored nine-straight points before Fisk secured its first points of the quarter, but the Lions continued to score enroute to a 21-3 run. McNamara had a scoring outburst with 11 points, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs by herself in the frame.



THIRD QUARTER: UNA 48, FISK 24


UNA remained steady in the driver's seat with another positive scoring outing in the third quarter. Alvarado had five points in the quarter, but the defense kept momentum going after a dominant second quarter. The Lions held Fisk to 16.7 percent shooting, — under 20 percent for the second-straight quarter. The bench also proved key for UNA, scoring nine of the 11 points.



FOURTH QUARTER: UNA 75, FISK 42


North Alabama saved its best for last to seal the home win against Fisk. UNA scored its most points in any quarter with 27 points, also shooting at its highest clip at 52.4 percent. Four additional blocks added to the home rout along with the trio of Alvarado (eight points), Ceppellotti (seven) and freshman Brooke Hallman (six) closing the game out with a combined 21 points on 69 percent shooting.

Women's Basketball looks to go 3-0 on Monday, Nov. 10, with the Lions hosting rivals Jacksonville State in CB&S Bank Arena at 6 p.m.
