SAN DIEGO (November 9, 2025) – Juniors Alberto Altur and Izan Orgiles represented the University of North Alabama on a major stage this weekend, concluding the ITA Conference Masters Championships with two wins in San Diego, Calif.
The two head back to Florence after battling some of the best singles and doubles players in the country. In the program's first appearance at the ITA Conference Masters Championships, Altur secured one singles victory while both Altur and Orgiles combined for a doubles win in the main bracket.
Altur claimed his win in the consolation bracket with a 4-0 win over Alabama State's Milan Ristov. His tournament opened against Illinois State's Tomas Valencia, falling in the bout, 7-5, 6-3. Altur went on to defeat Ristov in the ensuing consolation match by injury before ending the tournament with a 6-2, 3-6, 2-6 defeat to Dayton's Mikkel Zinder.
Altur teamed with Orgiles for a fast start in the tournament, taking a main-bracket, 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Binghamton's William Morais Binnie and Ronin Lotlikar. The second match ended in defeat with the two dropping a 6-2, 6-2 bout to Rice's Petro Kuzmenok and Santiago Navarro in the round of 16.
Altur and Orgiles now look to spearhead the Lions into the Spring 2026 campaign — helping lead UNA to 62 singles and doubles victories over the fall semester.
UNA Men's Tennis has high expectations in 2026, looking to defend their regular season and tournament crown in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The Lions had their best Division I campaign in Spring 2025 with a 20-4 overall record and 8-0 record in conference play. North Alabama captured both the regular season and tournament ASUN titles – earning the first ASUN titles in Division I program history and first conference championship since 1981. The tournament win was also the first postseason championship for any UNA team since the move to Division I in 2018.
The 2025 season culminated in program's first Division I NCAA Tournament appearance.
Awaiting the program this winter is the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 23-24, 2026 at Ohio State. The Lions will join the Buckeyes, Purdue and Old Dominion.
