Four Lions remain in top 20 at RTJ Silver Lakes

UNA Women’s Golf remains in fifth heading into final round

GLENCOE, Ala. (March 10, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team maintained its spot in the second round of the Chris Banister Golf Classic in Glencoe, Ala. on Monday, battling early rains before winds and sunshine emerged in the afternoon.

The Lions remain in fifth place after two rounds at 63-over-par 639. This is only 30 strokes off Richmond and host school Jacksonville State, who are tied for the lead, as well as 42 spots ahead of seventh place Bryant.

For the second straight day, four UNA golfers were in the top 20 in the field of 43. Leading the charge is senior Hannah Dees alone in 16th place at 14-over-par 158. Known for her ability to limit mistakes, Dees had another rock steady day with back-to-back seven-over days to remain just 11 strokes back of the lead. She finished the round with 12 pars — one more than yesterday.

Senior teammate Jahnavi Prakhya is currently one stroke back of Dees in a tie for 17th. True freshman Elsa Maren Steinarsdottir emerged in round two and cracked the top 20 three strokes behind Prakhya. She recorded two birdies on the back nine, including a hole she bogeyed in the first round. She was one of just four players to birdie this hole in two rounds. She also birdied a par-three on hole 17.

Playing as an individual, redshirt sophomore Kerigan Klauber is tied for 20th at 18-over. She birdied a par-three on hole two and is one of just four players to birdie that hole through two rounds.

Freshmen Sirichaya Chanpen and Olivia Whittle are tied for 27th at 20-over-par 164. Chanpen had a rare accomplishment with a birdie on the first hole. She is one of just two players to do this all tournament along with Samford's Gabi Nicastro, who is atop the leaderboard and the No. 65 ranked golfer according to Scoreboard powered by Clippd.

Tee times will be 30 minutes earlier tomorrow to accommodate travel. Klauber will start for UNA at 8:40 a.m. followed by the starting five in 10 minute increments. The Lions will pair with fourth place Murray State and sixth place Tennessee Tech.
