GLENCOE, Ala. (March 11, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team had the lowest round at RTJ Silver Lakes on Tuesday, closing the Chris Banister Golf Classic in fourth place for a one spot improvement.
UNA's final round was an impressive 14-over-par 302. This finished UNA with a final score of 941 to rank fourth of seven teams. The Lions were the only team to make forward progress up the leaderboard.
Senior Jahnavi Prakhya was a key reason for the improvement, posting a two-under-par 70 in the final round. She was the only player in the 43-player field to break below par in any round. She rose 15 spots to finish second overall at 13-over-par 229 — four strokes off the winner and No. 65 player in the nation, Samford's Gabi Nicastro.
Prakhya started hot with three birdies through the first five holes, including a par three, par four and par five. She also added two more on the back nine, including a three on a par-four on the final hole to break a three-way tie for second.
Three more Lions finished in the Top 20, including senior Hannah Dees at 21-over for 18th place. True freshman Elsa Maren Steinarsdottir kept her place in the Top 20 with a 22-over, including four-over on the final day. She finished with three birdies in the final round.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Kerigan Klauber finished 19th with two birdies in the final round.
Rounding out the Lions were freshman Sirichaya Chanpen in 24th place and Olivia Whittle in 38th.
Richmond won the event with a 923 score, followed by host school Jacksonville State at 928 and Samford at 934. The three in-state programs made up three of the top four. The Lions edged Murray State for fifth at 944 and Tennessee Tech at 947. Bryant was seventh at 1,028.
UNA returns to action March 16-18 in Gulf Shores at the Bama Beach Bash.
