GULF SHORES, Ala. (March 16, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team opened play at the Bama Beach Bash in Gulf Shores on Sunday, starting with a well-rounded scorecard to tie for fourth place.

No. 36 ranked Iowa State has a nine-stroke lead on the pack, but UNA is strongly in the mix of teams competing behind the Cyclones at 25-over-par 313. UAB and UNC Asheville are tied for second just two strokes ahead of UNA and Georgia State.

The Lions lead fellow ASUN member EKU by one stroke, followed by Southern Miss, East Texas A&M, West Georgia and UAlbany.

As a team, UNA finished with 10 birdies with all five players recording at least one. Redshirt sophomore Kerigan Klauber, who played as an individual the last tournament, moved into the lineup and recorded four birdies with three in the final five holes. She is tied for 22nd at six-over alongside senior teammate Hannah Dees.

For the second straight tournament, senior Jahnavi Prakhya leads the team at five-over for 17th. The reigning ASUN Co-Golfer of the Week was even through nine holes and did not double any holes in the round.

Rounding out the UNA lineup was freshmen Elsa Maren Steinarsdottir in 32nd and Sirichaya Chanpen in 42nd. All five Lions are tied for their position after one day.

UNA had one of the more well-rounded lineups in the 10-team field, as Chanpen was the second-lowest score among fifth-place players in the lineup. There are 65 golfers in the field.

Play resumes tomorrow at Gulf Shores Golf Club. Tee times will be announced before tomorrow morning.
